Good news and bad news
First, the smallest one who we called Rowan died Friday morning,
It was sad but Cleverwife did everything possible to help him,
sometimes life is just like that.
On a positive note, the rest are all growing like crazy,
gaining 0.9 of an ounce everyday.
that doesn't sound like much until you count the fact that the biggest only weighs
7.1 ounces. so that is like gaining 20 pounds a day if you were 200lbs.
The babies are so cool, I have no idea how I'm going to let them go.

One year later
Has it really been a year already?
It does not seem like a whole year has gone by.
Strange really, I thought that somehow with the passing of this year,
that my feelings about Dad's passing would somehow lessen, and that
I would be able to think about him more and not feel so anxious and edgy , and on the verge of tears when I do.
But time goes on .
The pain I felt a year ago is less now, and the sadness is slowly
lifting away.
Instead now there are times that I feel angry, mostly at me.
Because I am not the parent I want to be or that I feel the weasels deserve, or the Husband that such and amazing and beautiful woman that Cleverwife is deserves either.
That is a post for another time.
Today as I write this, another year has passed and in it's passing so much has happened,
Dad is gone and as I think about him, I realize what a fighter he was in so many ways.
His own dad died when he was only 4
I was lucky enough to get 38 years with him
He was all of our biggest supporters in what we wanted to do when we were kids.
He was very proud of and loved his grandchildren dearly.
I remember when he came out for #1 weasel's baptism, he was so happy, that you can clearly see it in his face. Later when he met the others it was the same way.
He went through 3 rounds with cancer and fought like a champion to the end.
I don't know if I have his strength.
I hope I do. There are times when I need it.
My only wish is that the weasels could have known him better.
I'm going to break my own rules and post a picture of him. If you are related to me, or a close family friend, this could give away my identity, but for the most part I should be safe.
There have been plenty of moments in the last year when I have felt like he was close to us.
Maybe If I could shut up once in a while
I could hear him.
(I Hope)

OMIGOD
Remember i told you about all of the rabbits we have?
Well, we didn't plan it, but two of them mated(whoops)
and we didn't know until the female started nesting behavior yesterday
so we looked up what the behavior meant and thoght she might be pregnant,
and there was also a chance that it could be false (it happens i guess)
so i built a nesting box just in case, (just in time too!!!)
less than an hour later there were six (SIX!!!)
new rabbits in the house.
at least we know who the dad is now !!
I'll post pictures as soon as i can

Moved
I know I haven't written anything in a while but that's because we have been very very busy.
We no longer live in crappy rental housing.
We are in our own house yay! (well, the bank owns 50% technically)
it has been a very hectic week, and now that we are in it is now the organising and storing of everything that we own (way too much!!)
The Bunnies even have their own room! just for them.
of course they end up all over the house when they are taken out : )
The boys seem happy.
Except for right now as the oldest weasel is giving his non stop commentary on every commercial that comes on the TV.
According to his Majesty he can say whatever he wants, because the commercials annoy him.
where does he get this that he shouldn't have to see the commercials because he does not want them.
It doesn't matter that I have explained to him countless times that the commercials pay for the shows he watches, as far as he is concerned it should be free.
Heaven help me

What the??
Cleverwife has just shown me something that makes me wonder about what the hell is going on inn this !#$%$%^% world .
In Just a days drive from where we live now,(this was the limit she placed on the search more or less) there is literally hundreds of dogs that have been rescued by dog rescue societies, or surrendered to shelters by their owners.
I say surrendered, because it is nicer than saying in some cases, that the animals were taken from these pieces of work by the proper authorities'
in one case the owner had puppies and their mother in a cage or pen that was surrounded by an electric wire.
and for fun once in a while he would separate the puppies from mom so that when the puppies wanted to feed, they would get shocked.
Surprised?
I'm not I read more and more every day about sociopathic sick people who think that animals are so far beneath humans that these "people" (loosely used here).
can treat them however they want.
it makes me sick inside.
we have currently 11 pets ( I think we would have more, but space, finances etc)
and we love them all I am devastated when one of the pets dies.
Why the hell do some people think that cruelty to animals is OK?
Serial killers and sociopaths usually start of being cruel to animals, then moving on.
things like this make me fear for the future.
Does this not make anyone else sick?

What's written on my forehead?
I swear to God the word "sucker" is up there.
this all started innocently enough,
For the middle weasels birthday, last year we got him a pet rabbit.
He called her Joy because he said that is what she brings him.
That's cool, and I happen to agree because well, Joy is about the
coolest animal I have ever met.
I call her a bitch
Bunny In Total Control of Herself
She ruled the house for a long time.
After we moved, there was a constant
can we get another bunny,
then one day last Feb,
we went out and got Mandela
I have spoken about him before
he is cool too, and is my little buddy,
i think he is funny, and he likes to snuggle a bit,
so that was cool.
Then Oldest weasel struck a deal to pay for part of a bunny for himself
( I admit it I'm weak)
Enter Harmony
she of the one ear flopped over and just about as cute as all can get.
Fast forward to April, and there I was placing orders, then driving alone at night to pick up
Peace and Steve from the airport,
Not only did I pay for said bunnies, I paid to ship them from another province
By Airplane, and then drive alone at night to another city to pick them up, and then return home with them.
Now there is talk of breeding them.
Manny and Steve like this,
Manny is all about the ladies
I know I am going to end up with more rabbits
I think I may post a picture of my forehead so if anyone reads this, they can tell me what is written there.
But you can check Joy out on Youtube

Whoops
the other day, the entire group of us was out and about looking for some new appliances
While I was away a few months back weasel 3 broke tthe stove, by dropping a metal can on the glass cooktop ( completely accidental for a change)
so we need to purchase a new one, while we were looking at the selection in one of the big box stores that deal in appliances and electronics, the weasels of death were amusing themselves by looking at video games, computers etc.
all of a sudden we hear an anti-theft alarm go off ( see where this is going ?)
Cleverwife looks at me and says where is weasel 3? ( she didn't say weasel 3 of course , she called him by his name)
I think at this point she was joking, but no sooner than she said this then he cam back to us in a hurry, and looking rather sheepish.
At this point weasel one arrrived on the scene to tell us that youngest had been looking at an Ipod and pulled too hard and set off the cable alarm, much to his surprise.
Whoops
(but I bet he won't do that again)

Idiots
Why is it that some times when you venture out in public,
you run afoul of some idiot trying to protect or police whatever small empire that they think
necessary to police?
Case in point.
the family all went out grocery shopping today,
and the boys went to another section of the store, to
look at some toys,
and thay then came back to us.
about two seconds after they came back to us ,
idiot #1 came up and said that he was an employee
of the store and that one of the weasels had jumped and waved his hands in some ones face.
I said ok, and that i would talk to him.I went over to where the rest of the family was, and the idiot followed me, and continued to identify himself as store security.
I asked him for proof of this , and he got the on duty manager to come, and verufy
his identity.
She did, so i told him that i understood his concerns and explained that I wanted proof that he was employed by the stire, because anybody could just say this.
the whole time, he was repeating himself, and getting louder and louder, and cleverwife had even offered to take the one weasel out of the store,
Idiotboy seemed to take offese to the fact that I questioned him on being a store employee, and was getting confrontational, so i said to him that he and I were finished, he told me that he wouldn't be talked to that way in his pl;ace of employment, and asked me to leave.
I told him that i wanted to speak to the manager, and he said go ahead, but wouldn't leave, so I told him that I would when he left, he still would not go, finally he left.
the manager informed me that he was actually an employee of another company that works for the storein theft reduction, and that becuse we were not stealing, he vcould not aske me to leave anyway, and she did not want us to leave.
she also had told Cleverwife that she did not like the way the guy handled things and the way he acted and that she wanted us to continue shopping there.
Later, as we were leaving, the guy was glaring at me and acting like there was aproblem
the only problem i see was his.
am I wrong in thiking he was way out of line?

Days Off
The Weasels have a day off from school today,
So I decided to take a day off as well.
Why is it that I can barely get them out of bed on time for school,
but they all managed to get out of bed in order to play Game cube right away?
Kids
CleverWife is still in bed (lucky her)
the Baby squirrels were retrieved by a natural resources guy
and they were good when they left us, after a night of cleverwife getting up all the time to
check on them.
on the plus side there is only just over a month until we move into the new house
Yea
Ireally do not have a lot to say
maybe I'll post more later

Babies
It has been a long time (again!) since my last post.
All 5 of the bunnies are doing well, and Iwent on a trip (business, not pleasure).
We have a temporary addition to the menagerie of our house,
Pocko and clinger, two baby grey squirrels that the weasels and their friends rescued after the mama was found dead.
No one knows what happened to the mama
The weasels friends had them in a carrier but they came over yesterday and told us that one of them was not doing well.
they brought it over, and Clevewife warmed it up and then did research on the internet, and found a woman who rescues them.
We( and by we I mean mostly her) fed them ensure last night, and kept them warm and this morning they are much more lively and active.
We are such suckers for small animals
I'll keep you posted there is more over at my son's blog

At last
It has been some time since my last post, and a ton of things have happened
I hope that I have not lost the few readers that I had before my unscheduled hiatus
We have bought a house , it is in our price range,
it is all finished, and we take possession in June!
Yea us.
the weasels and clever wife are excited, and I am too, because
it means more living space for us all, and more space for everyone so that it does not feel as if we are right on top of each other every day.
We now have 5 that's right 5 rabbits,
4 are English angoras, and 1 is a chinchilla dwarf.
we are (m and by we I mean cleverwife) planning to breed them, and collect the wool fronm them..
there are 2 boys,
Mandela, who you met earlier, and Steve
whose name is a tribute to the late Steve Irwin "the crocodile Hunter"
who I believe did more to champion animals on this planet than anyone else.
I promise to have pictures of the bunnies soon
are we crazy?
now there are 11 pets in the house.

Rambling
Well there has been some time since my last post,
and we have been busy.
I am instructing on a course that makes
me work from 630 to 630,
and some nights i do not get home at all
I had a day off today, and we spent it looking at houses.
The weasels of death had March break this opast week, but because it was to
freaking cold , they drove cleverwife crazy cooped up in the small house that we are in right now.
On the plus side ,
one of the houses we looked at seems like it could be right for us
a fair space, and in our price range.
as a negative,
I was told by one of the students on the course, that i was
" not bad for a fat old middle aged guy"
What the hell does that mean?
of course, she is closer in age to my kids than me, so her judgement may be cloudy
or just.plain.wrong.
I mean i"m not this guy
Who cleverwife thinks is very hot
But i'm not this guy either
Thank god for that
I'm more like this
( yeah right)

Fun,Fun Fun
Sorry,
it has been awhile since my last post
those of you who read this (is there anyone? delurk now)
know that with the three of them we are busy.
the boys have had a busy couple of days.
They went out to Archery on the weekend,
then we drove around the neighborhoods.
to get a feel for what is in the real estate market here.
then back to school
Middle weasel was out for a field trip yesterday,
and cleverwife went with them.
then more archery last nite.
It doesn't help that I am going into work earlier, and leaving later.
Isn't that always the way?
when the family life gets busier,
it seems that there are more work demands
and you always have to walk the line between the two.
by the way the picture is of the dog Daisy
affectionately known as moosie
( I am not explaining the grass skirt)

Games and Fun
2 Christmasses ago, the weasels got these
from our good friends.
They now have several of them each.
Yougest weasel has 11
For her birthday, Cleverwife got this one.
I even have my own
The webkinz website is pretty neat,
there are games to play, and you can earn
Kinzcash so that you can buy food and items for you virtual pet.
what bugs me about this is the amount of time we seem to spend on the website as a family.
playing the games, designing the rooms for our pets and ,
in the case of Cleverwife and I
(whose pets share the same virtual house.
we spend time putting virtual clothes on each others pets to make them look funny.
( I like to dress her Pug up like a pirate---It's a thing)
The weasels like laying the games and building the rooms too.
We even have got my sister her own webkins too.
It's like a drug, and we have to get everyone hooked.

Saturday stuff
So here we are on another Saturday,
We have already spent time at the rink this morning
with the youngest weasel and hockey
and we got home so that we could start doing
all the laundry and cleaning that needs to be done
all the time
I hate the house that we live in here.
it is too small,
too crowded and there is just not enough space for a family of 5
plus the zoo that we have.
I also think that the small space that we are living in is making
the boys act in the worst possible way imaginable some times
they fight with each other and cleverwife and I over the most trivial and
useles things
I think My limit just has been reached

Friday whatever
OK So they didn't Kill Meredith off on Grey's
that makes me feel better,
what I was suprised about was them killing her mother.
Oh well, At least I can still watch it.
On another note,
Manny the rabbit seems to be adjusting fine, and he and Joy (rabbit the first)
are actually playing with each other.
Harley, (or cat the second)
who is still a kitten, loves them both, and plays with them too.
Harley loves everything.
I have never seen a cat with a more loving disposition.
whoever picks him up is treated to the greatest purr festival ever.
He sleeps on our bed, and has a lovely habit of sticking his wet nose in my face to see if i'm awake.
Tonight we are going to watch a movie and
relax.
Here's a picture of Harley

morning
Good morning
I have to get this off of my chest
i can't believr tht they killed
Meredith off on Grey's Anatomy
If they don' somehow bring her back from the dead,
I am never ever watching again
Am I the only one who feels this way?
Or am I just crazy?

Monday
It is the typical monday
except oldest weasel has his own blog now
check it out over at
http://mattcenterofworld.blogspot.com/
The title refelcts the way he generally feels, that he thinks he is the center of the world
(he is but only in his own mind)
That being said, latly he has been a pretty good egg( more on this later)

Monday
Ok the winter has to end.
We had a snow day last Thursday, and as Iam writing, the snow is falling again!
I am getting tired of all this.
Mandela the rabbit seems to be adjusting fine to his new home
the older rabbit, Joy
seems to be rather, well, bitchy about the whole thing
she grunts and attacks poor Mandela, or Manny as he is called.
I think she may be a tad jealous.
The kids all seem to like him,
Cleverwife and I like him too
I just don't enjoy the fact that he likes to pee on me from time to time.
Back to my mom, when we told her of our future plans, she didn't say much, just
kind of had the whole attitude about the idea.
Why is it that family always seems the least supportive?

ANOTHER DAY
I'd say another dollar, but I don't even think I'd get that right now
My neck and shoulders hurt so much, that even Oldest weasel is taking pity on me
and rubbing the Ben-Gay into my shoulders
Youngest weasel scored another Goal at hockey this morning.
Middle weasel is supposed to be in bed right now but is busy, running around reciting lines from the movie "zoom"
The weekend was uneventful, except for the visit of my mother and sister
Why is it that family members just don't get things at times and can make you
second guess your plans?

the name

The angora bunny now has a name.
his name is Mandela, or manny for short.
Manny because 1) cleverwife like manny the mammoth from ICE Age
and because i have a quote from Nelson Mandela on my digital signature that says " the greatest glory lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall"
Cool huh?
Here is manny

Update
I know, I know,
How can I be updating on anything, when it was only an hour or so ago that
I wrote?
Well, the zoo is bigger, Cleverwife is now the proud mama to a male angora rabbit
don't ask me what his name is,
so far the choices are narrowed down to
Hamish, Gilbert ( she had a crush on the guy from Anne of Green Gables)
Chewie, McGraw ( as I was inspired by the Tim McGraw song " live like you were dying")
SHe wants to possibly get into breeding them so why wait?
Let's live like this could be our last day.
So far he has no name, (I like Hamish)
I will try to post a picture of him when he has a name.
I think we may be crazy there are now 8 animals in the house
2 cats , 1 dog, 2 rabbits, and 3 guinea pigs ( i think I mentioned this.
I invite your comments as to our sanity.
So far there is no name

Snow day
As I write this I am at home with all 3 weasels and CleverWife, because it is a snow day.
youngest weasel's best friend M (who I believe shares his brain) is here too, and has been here most of the day.
God Help us all.
so far, I have
1) done some laundry
2) shovelled the driveway (with help from middle weasel)
3) made a TIM HORTON'S run.
4) washed 3 loads of dishes\
5) made a batch of cookies
6) played STARFOX ASSAULT with the boys
and generally had a huge fight with oldest weasel about cleaning his room
which apparently does not invlove say cleaning the crap off of his floor to him.
I have also spent time lost in cyberspace because of Blogger's insistence that i move to the new blogger.
PS. I am also debating/discussing/arguing with Cleverwife over the addition of another animal to our zoo
we already have 2 cats, 1 dog, 1 rabbit, and 3 guinea pigs, and are going top be adding some angora rabbits(just for fun)
I am not opposed to this, I just want to know where we are going to put them.
Of course, they think that because I am home, that i should go and get one of these rabbits now, regardless of the fact that school was closed because of the roads.
I am dispensible I guess

Sunday Hockey
Ok so here we are and it is still miserable and cold
Is this ever going to end?
Sunday last (or last Sunday...whatever).
I had to dive youngest weasel 45min away to
a very small town for a hockey game.
in quite possibly the coldest arena I have sat in yet.
I thought he had fallen asleep, because he never just sits in a car.
there is always a non-stop dialogue (one sided)
and an endless barrage of questions that spew forth from him.
Suddenly from the back of the car comes "are we going to be there soon?"
I had to laugh because that whole are we there yet thing popped into my head.
I think that he needs a haircut soon, because one of the girls on his hockey team
offered to lend him a ponytail elastic to hold his hair back so he could see.
All in all the game was fun, they lost (the scoreboard said 4 to 0,, in reality it was like 20 to 0)
The kids didn't seem to care, but the parents did.
however one of the kids on the team did get a penalty shot with 3 seconds left.
Giving a 7-8 year old a penalty shot is like the best thing, because1) it never ever happens in the NHL, and 2) what kid hasn't dreamed of going in on a goalie all alone.
I never got a penalty shot.
There is more hockey to come,
as the season progresses, though, the kids are getting way better.

Cold
OK I know it's winter, but does it have to be so $%^&^ cold every morning??
I fell like we are back living in Northern Alberta again.
Having to start the car and let it warm up every day is a pain.
The weasels have no appreciation for this either.
I think they expect it.
All three of them are now doing archery, although I still question my Sanity at giving the tasmanian devil unchained that is the youngest wesel the opportunity to use something that can launch a potentially lethal device. Given that at the first nite for him he was quiet, attentive and focussed on the whole deal, safety and everything .
I secretly hope they will stick with it as it is a well run activity and the focus ids on having fun in a safe atmosphere.
When youngest weasel came in with me though they asked if there were ant more kids to come in next time. I laughed and said no that he was the last.
Funny how though, when the house was a mess this morning. Cleverwife informed me that it was all my fault as I had said yes to having #2 and # 3.
Wouldn't change anything. when I look back, i can see that there are many good memories of all three, and the promise of more to come.
Last night, the youngest weasel came in the middle of the night for a cuddle.
Cleverwife is the one that they go to because, I like my sleep too much, and will kick them out to their own beds after10-20 minutes. Cleverwife goes back to sleep, and the weasel will still be there in the morning.
As Cleverwife was wound up and could not sleep, and i was barely sleeping because of an ongoing shoulder/neck pain, she woke me up to see her raise sleeping youngest's arm and go "aren't I cute ?" about 3 times.
funny yes, but I was sleeping.
If it isn't the kitten crunching Bic pens in the middle of the night(more later)
It's this kind of thing from time to time, not only did she wake me to show me this, but whenI did fall back to sleep , youngest weasel rolled over , and slapped me accidentally( that's what he says) and woke me up again.
tonight i'm sleeping on the floor.
( after Grey's Anatomy and Supernatural of course)

Games and fun
At Christmas, the weasels got a Gamecube as a present
they love it, for the most part.
There are of course the moments of frustration when they are playing a game and they have a hard time to get past a certain level, and they get stuck because it is not as easy as they want /think it should be.
Cleverwife and I are not very big fans of the games with blood and violence, Cleverwife is especially not a fan of the games that glorify war in any aspect.
I like the games that have a storyline that you follow and get past certain levels/villians when certain tasks and or skills are achieved.
Cleverwife has her own game for the Cube Crash nitrokart
She enjoys playing this racing game and as of late is generally kicking my butt at it.
However her playing the game and beating me is not the fun part.
Her playing of the game is
You do not have to move the controller to play the game, only to manipulate the buttons and little joystick thingy in order to race.
Be that as it may Cleverwife throws her whole body into playing it, if she id turning a corner on the game, then her arms will swing out in the direction for the turn, so much so that she presents a hazard to those around her. I am sure that when the kitten sees her head for the game cube, he beats a retreat for safer climates in the house.
Also, she likes to play this at night, in bed, and the whole bed shakes so violently that i am scared I am going to fall out.

Weekends
Ah weekends
I remember a time when weekends were made to relax and enjoy life.
When the kids were younger and even before they were born , Cleverwife and I had leisurely weekends.
not much running around. casual shopping etec.
That's gone
Hockey basketball and rushing around like crazy people now seem to occupy our time
This weekend , the youngest weasel had hockey on Saturday. not just hockey , but pictures too.
so that meant getting him up and ready early enough to make sure that his hair was not going to be the usual rats nest for the pictures.
after hockey, there was just enough time to run around doing housework, (yeah laundry) and then rush out to the other side of town so he could go to a birthday party. After we got lost, we arrived there (late , again!)
and dropped him off. Weasels #1 and #2 and CLeverwife and I went and did a little shopping. We decided as well to get a little snack. the snack places. Interac machine was not working, but we could pay at customer service. which I did after waiting in line longer than I thought i should have to, because some people are sure that they have exact change, somewhere in the basement of their purse, which is the size of a small siutcase.
why do people insist on doing this, even if there is a line up of people behind them?
not that I had any pressing engagements, but if people are waiting, that is not the time to do that.
finally, I got to have my coffee, and lo and behold it sucked, why is it like that, you wait for something that you want, and it turns out to be miserable, and you end up not wanting it any way.
when we rushed back to pick youngest weasel up, he wasn't ready anyway so we could have not rushed, and had a more relaxing time.
On the plus side, the oldest really seems to have taken a shine to the archery, so hopefully this will help with everything else in some way. the Boys are rebelling at me more, because after years of having me waffle when it comes to having consequences for their rule-breaking, i am finally enforcing the consequences. which they do not like.
I'm hoping the "I hate you" comments peter out quickly.
Also. why is it that when they are ready to leave for school 1/2 an hour before it is time to go, they will only remember something that they need as everyone else is in the car? (this is aimed at you #2 weasel). to combat this Cleverwife has proposed that we insist that the school backpacks be ready the night before.
hopefully this will work too.

Snow
As i am writing this, there is snow coming down in rapid amounts and possibly the largest snowflakes I have ever seen.
Cleverwife has informed me that the weasels are outside, and have been out there most of the morning, tired, wet and happy.
Oldest boy has started archery, and seems to really enjoy it, he is focussed, calm and intent when he is doing it, so maybe there will be positive results in his outside life (read school) from this
Life is slowly getting organized, the weasels are on chore charts, and bedtime routines and morning routines so that we can actually get organized, heaven forbid!
My Thanks to Helen and Julie who posted comments here the other day and their advice was welcome, and we are going to try it.
The boys were happy to not have to go to school today, Cleverwife says she enjoys having them home, but I think from the phone call that they are getting on her nerves.
hopefully by the time i get home they will be tired and ready to have a quiet night.
Cheers

Monday
This past weekend was not the best of times.
on a plus note, the youngest weasel had no hockey, so there was no early risings.
on the downside, the 3 weasels have been acting pretty poorly lately,
so the rules are coming down again , in a clear more defined fashion. hopefully this helps.
I threatened the boys with Nanny 911 this weekend.
the youngest weasel said I'll just lock the door on her.
That seems to be the basic problem, they just do not seem to care.
Cleverwife and I have explained to them that if they helped out, listened, and went to bed better, there would be more time to do "fun " things with them.
this seems to haveno effect on them .
The oldest still hates school, still hates where we are, still hates just about everything.
Middle one is still in constant competition with the youngest.
Youingest just wont go to bed EVER.
any ideas, advice, help.
I know i missed delurking week, so if anyone reads this HELP!

Sorry
Sorry,
I have not posted in a while, busy busy busy,
the holidays are over, the tree is down, the new year has started, and all is good.
I hope that all of you are well, and the new year is good to you.
As for myself I am glad 2006 is done. Not a good year.
I'm hoping the next one will be better.
The boys are back at school and life should(ha) settle back into normal.
Next up is the visit from my sister(long awaited), and the painting of the living room.
If i can figure it out, i'll post photos, if not you'll have to picture it in your mind
Cheers
